Lexi-CONNECT and Java will not run

We have upgraded Lexi-Connect to take advantage of the advantages of the newest Java architecture. In order to use Lexi-Connect, it is necessary to update your version of Java to at least 1.5_06.

There are currently two major version of Java that you may be using. It will be important to first determine which version of Java you are running on your computer by following the instructions below:

  1. Please click on the Start Menu and Click Run.
  2. Type in "javaws" without the quotation marks.
  3. You will either see Java Webstart Application Manager (you are running Java version 1.4 and will need to remove this and install Java 1.5) or Java Application Cache Viewer (indicating you are using Java 1.5, see below)
    1. If you are using Java 1.4, please remove it through the ADD/REMOVE Programs option in you Control Panel.
    2. Once this is done, please visit http://connect.lexi.com and click on "Download Now" to install the most recent version of Java and of Lexi-Connect.
  4. If you are currently running Java 1.5 but Lexi-Connect will not open for you, you will need to clear your Java Cache and reinstall connect. Please follow the instructions below:

Instructions for clearing the Java 5 (1.5) cache (Java Application Cache Viewer)

  1. Open Java WebStart from the icon on your desktop or in your start menu by clicking Start--> Run and typing in 'javaws' and clicking 'OK'
  2. Right click on Lexi-connect from the application list and choose Remove Application. Lexi-connect will uninstall from Java. This may take a moment
  3. Click on Edit->Preferences and click the Delete Files button. A menu will appear with three check boxes. Ensure that all three are checked and click Yes. NOTE: This will remove any other installed java applications from Webstart.
  4. Now click the second View button at the bottom of the window in the Java Application Runtime Settings. Make sure that there is only one version of Java checked. If you have multiple versions of Java listed make sure that only version 1.5 is checked. click 'OK'.
  5. Now click 'OK' to exit Preferences window.
  6. Click Start --> Run and type in the following address to bring up the installation of Lexi-Connect:

http://connect.lexi.com/dbupdate/dbupdate.jnlp

This will run the installation of Lexi-Connect.
