Java Install Error 1772

"Error 1722 means that there is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected..."

This error is normally found in Windows 2000 or Windows XP, but can be found in the other windows versions. It usually means that the appropriate user permissions have not been set up and Java is unable to install to the appropriate directory. To resolve the issue you will need to install Java to the C:\Java directory. The steps to accomplish this are as follows:

  1. Launch the Java installer you downloaded and run it again.
  2. Chose custom installation instead of typical when prompted.
  3. You will see an option at the bottom of the install options screen to change the install directory. Click on this and change the install directory from C:\Program Files\Java to C:\Java.
  4. You do NOT need to change any other settings. Proceed through the Java the install. Once completed you will know the installation was successful by the appearance of a Java WebStart Icon on your desktop. The icon looks like a cup of coffee with steam coming from it.
  5. You may now visit http://connect.lexi.com to complete your Lexi-Connect installation.

If you still receive an error when installing to C:\Java then you most likely do not have the user permissions to install software on your computer or you have not been running Windows Update regularly. If you have not been using Windows Update please apply Microsoft Patch: Q814995 found at

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;814995.

However you only need to install this patch if the above steps do not work. If after installing the patch you still encounter difficulty, then please go to www.java.com and choose the automatic installer. This has been found to correct some of the remaining 1722 issues.
