Lexi-Comp program will not display on my PDA

Palm OS Users Pocket PC Users

This situation will occur for one of two reasons:

  1. If you see any books listed at this screen, then you will need to tap on the book first to highlight it, then tap on 'open'. This step can be confusing when only one database appears in your listing. This reader is used to run multiple databases. All Lexi-Comp programs with the exception of Lexi-Interact run from the Lexi-Comp ON-HAND (Palm OS) or Lexi-Comp Reader (Pocket PC) icons.

  2. If no databases appear in your installed books (Pocket PC) or Lexi-comp Reader (Palm OS) screen, then you have not yet successfully installed these products or may need to do a soft reset on your device to bring your hardware OS and Lexi-Comp software into association. If a soft reset is unsuccessful, then you have not yet successfully installed the databases to your device. Common reasons for this include:

Palm OS:

Before proceeding tap Refresh to rescan your device and memory card for Lexi-Comp files.

  1. If you used Lexi-Connect to download and install your files then please check the following:

    a) You have performed 2 hot syncs on your initial installation using Lexi-Connect. Please launch Lexi-Connect and complete another hot-sync.

    b) Your available memory may be too low. Please free up some available memory. Then launch Lexi-Connect. Make sure the programs that you wish to install are checked and perform a hot-sync. Please keep Lexi-Connect open/running through the entire sync.

    c) Please make sure your conduits are installed. Open Lexi-Connect, then go to View/Options/Palm OS tab from the Menu choices. Click Install Conduits. If you have a supported Palm Desktop 4.0.1. or higher then you can run Lexi-Connect again and successfully install the database. If you do not have a supported Palm Desktop then visit your manufacturer's web site to download the latest version.

  2. If you did not use Lexi-Connect to download and install then check your available free memory. You may also have your 'install' conduit disabled on your HotSync Manager. A disabled conduit is common if you have enough memory on your device, you have added the database to the 'Install Tool" under the correct username, and you can HotSync to your other programs. In the system tray of your computer (near the time) you will see a red and blue Hotsync Manager icon.

Pocket PC:

  1. Make sure to do a soft reset to first try to re-establish the association of the files. If this is the first installation of the program, you will want to make sure that you install the reader files first.
  2. If you used Lexi-Connect to download and install your files, then please check to make sure that your available memory is not too low. Please free up some available memory. Then launch Lexi-Connect, make sure the programs that you wish to install are checked. Then wait at least 2 minutes while Lexi-Connect is open and running. The database files will then automatically transfer to your handheld device as long as it is connected. Please wait until the sync process completes before removing your device from the cradle or sync cord.
  3. If you did not use Lexi-Connect, then please do the following:
    • go to your start menu on your Pocket PC
    • click on settings, then system tab
    • click on the memory icon
    • click on the running programs tab
    • tap on Lexi-Comp Reader, then tap on stop
    • go back to your start menu and try to Access Lexi-Comp Reader, if the problem persists continue to step 4.
    • go to your start menu on your Pocket PC
    • click on settings, then system tab
    • click on the remove programs icon
    • locate Lexi-Comp Reader and the other Lexi-Comp Databases
    • tap on them individually, then tap on remove
    • locate the lexicompreader.exe and the other Lexi-Comp files that you downloaded on your computer
    • reinstall these programs making sure to do the Reader file first. Additionally, make sure that when you double click on the file to install it to your device that the file installation directory begins: C:\Program Files\{Lexi-Comp File Name}
