J. Robert Newland, DDS, MS
Dr Newland has been involved in academic dentistry for more
than 30 years. Dr Newland graduated from the University
of Texas in 1966 and received a Doctor of Dental Surgery
Degree from the University of Texas Health Science Center at
Houston, Dental Branch in 1970. He completed an Advanced
Education Program in Oral Pathology at the University of
Texas Health Science Center at Houston, Dental Branch
and received a Master of Science Degree in Oral Pathology
in 1978. Dr Newland also completed a fellowship in Oral
Pathology at the MD Anderson Cancer Center.
From 1978 to 2003, Dr Newland served in both faculty and
administrative positions at the University of Texas Health
Science Center at Houston, Dental Branch, including Chair
of the Department of Diagnostic Sciences and Associate
Dean for Student Affairs. He left the Dental Branch in 2003
to devote more time to his busy private practice. Dr Newland
is currently an adjunct faculty member in the Dental Hygiene
Program at Houston Community College. He has written
more than 100 scientific publications on a variety of topics
related to his specialty, including benign and malignant oral
tumors, oral manifestations of HIV infection and AIDS, oral
manifestations of systemic diseases, and the diagnosis
and treatment of oral soft tissue diseases. Dr Newland has
presented more than 100 continuing education seminars to
dental and medical healthcare providers. He has maintained
an active private practice for more than 25 years where he
manages patients with a wide range of oral diseases.
