Jeffrey P. Gonzales, PharmD, BCPS

Dr Gonzales is currently the Critical Care Clinical Pharmacy Specialist at the University of Maryland Medical Center and holds a clinical practice in a 29-bed, state-of-the-art, Medical Intensive Care Unit. Dr Gonzales received his Doctor of Pharmacy degree at Idaho State University in Pocatello, Idaho. He completed a Pharmacy Practice Residency at the University of Nebraska Medical Center, and then went on for specialized training with a Critical Care Residency at Detroit Receiving Hospital-Detroit Medical Center. Following his residency training, Dr Gonzales completed a Postdoctoral Fellowship in Critical Care at The University of Michigan College of Pharmacy, where he was the recipient of the 1999 American College of Clinical Pharmacy-Bayer Critical Care Fellowship Award.

After completion of his postgraduate training, he was the Critical Care Clinical Specialist at The Cleveland Clinic Foundation and practiced in the Medical Intensive Care Unit for 6 years. During that time, he was awarded the Ohio College of Clinical Pharmacy Bayer Board Certification Award and became a Board-Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist (BCPS). At the Cleveland Clinic, he was involved with medical and pharmacy resident/student education, precepted numerous research projects, and created the Critical Care Pharmacy Residency. He was a member of the Pharmacology Curriculum Committee, Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine at Case Western Reserve University. He also received the 2004 Cleveland Clinic Foundation Department of Pharmacy Research and Education Award, as well as the 2005 Ohio College of Clinical Pharmacy-Pfizer Research Award. His areas of interests and research are sedation, sepsis, ARDS, pulmonary hypertension, and alterations in absorption in the critically ill.

Dr Gonzales is an active member of the Society of Critical Care Medicine (SCCM), the American College of Clinical Pharmacy (ACCP), and the American Society of Health-Systems Pharmacists (ASHP).
