Thom C. Dumsha, MS, DDS, MS
Dr Thom Dumsha is Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of Endodontics, University
of Maryland at Baltimore College of Dental Surgery. Dr Dumsha graduated from the University of
Maryland Dental School where he also received his certificate in Endodontics. He has earned a
Master of Science Degree in Physiology from the Graduate School at the University of Maryland
Baltimore and a Master of Science Degree in Information Systems from the University of Maryland
Baltimore County. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Endodontics.
Dr Dumsha served as the Program Director for the Advanced Specialty Program in Endodontics at
the University of Maryland for 10 years. He has been an active member of the AAE, ADA, AADS, AADR,
and IADR. He has received multiple teaching awards including the Frank J. Sinnreich, Jr Award for
Excellence in Teaching, the Alpha Omega Clinical Teaching Award, and the Russell Gigliotti
Memorial Award.
Dr Dumsha has published numerous articles particularly in his field of expertise dealing with
dental trauma. He is coauthor of the Problem Solving in Endodontics textbook that is
currently in its third edition and has been printed in four languages. Dr Dumsha lectures both
nationally and internationally. Although a full-time faculty member at the University, he also
maintains a part-time endodontic practice. Because of his background and degree in Information
Systems, Dr Dumsha is also responsible for setting up and maintaining the server-based NT digital
radiography system in the Department of Endodontics.
