Donald P. Lewis, DDS, CFE

In 1993 Donald P. Lewis, DDS, CFE, discovered that his practice was a victim of a very silent and financially draining crime - embezzlement. Not knowing where to turn, he started his own investigation of the crime. He continued with the process of prosecution and recovery of lost funds on his own. After the recovery phase of his case, Dr Lewis felt that he needed to know about not only this type of crime, but also about the type of perpetrator that could cause such financial havoc in someone's practice. He has done extensive research on the subject of embezzlement and fraud and has authored the book Employment Embezzlement and Fraud in the Dental Office: Scams, Schemes and Broken Dreams.

Dr Lewis has been awarded the designation of "Certified Fraud Examiner" (CFE) by the Board of Regents of The Association of Certified Fraud Examiners. This designation is to select professionals who meet stringent criteria, including strict character, experience, and education requirements. CFEs are responsible for resolving a wide range of allegations of fraud and white-collar crime. The CFE designation is one of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners fundamental efforts against white-collar crimes. Dr Lewis is one of only two dentists to receive this certification.

Dr Lewis has lectured extensively on the subject of fraud and embezzlement across the United States to a wide range of healthcare organizations and professionals. This program is given for the protection of the healthcare professional from the common white-collar thief. As of the date of this printing, Dr Lewis has well over 150 reported cases in which healthcare professionals have discovered that they are indeed victims of this type of crime.

Dr Lewis is a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and is currently in private practice in Cleveland, Ohio. He received his undergraduate BS in Chemistry from Valparasio University in 1972 and his DDS from Case-Western Reserve University School of Dentistry in 1976. Dr Lewis completed his residency training in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery from the University Hospitals of Cleveland in 1980 and is an Associate Professor of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Case-Western Reserve University.
